Our Chapter

The SCBWI Westchester, NY, chapter launched in 2018. Our region was previously part of the Metro NY chapter, but after building community and hosting events in our county, it became evident that there was enough energy and passion for children’s books to break out on our own.

Chapter Volunteers:

Regional Adviser: Gina Macari
Gina Macari is a middle grade writer who lives in Sleepy Hollow, NY, where she finds inspiration in the historic, haunted village made famous by Washington Irving. She grew up outside Boston and she has a degree in English from Smith College. When she’s not writing fiction, Gina works as the head of content at a tech incubator and freelances for various publications. She began volunteering for SCBWI in 2010 and has chaired several day-long conferences for the Metro NY chapter. She’s a Ravenclaw to the core and her favorite middle grade character is Lyra Belacqua from THE GOLDEN COMPASS.

Assistant Regional Adviser: Kimberly Marcus
Kimberly Marcus has lived in Westchester for 27 years and is so excited to be a part of bringing SCBWI to Westchester. She is very involved with her community and just finished organizing her first TEDxTarrytown event. She has two children, a very supportive husband, two energetic cats, and a dog that likes to herd them.

Illustrator Coordinator: Adrienne May

Adrienne May illustrates stories for the children’s market. She studied human artistic anatomy at the Art Students League (NY) and botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Gardens (NYBG). She is the regional illustrator coordinator for SCBWI Westchester. When not drawing or painting she has been known to indulge in choral singing and urban hiking. Adrienne is a lifelong New Yorker (the state, not the city). You can visit her at or on her SCBWI page.
